Ruth Smith
Ruth A. Smith, age 90 of Celina, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at the Vancrest of Saint Marys.
She was born on May 17, 1934 to the late Walter J. and Mary (Mersman) Vander Horst in Celina. She is survived by her loving children Elaine (Ron) Hoskins of Findlay, Dave (Dianne) Smith of Celina, Karen (Tim) Klosterman of Celina, grandchildren Christina (Chris) Wetz, Shawn (Jennifer) Hoskins, Aaron (Betsy) Klosterman, Melanie (Kyle) Lefeld, Elizabeth (Kyle) Homan, Amanda (Steve) Moore, Brad (Lindsay) Smith, twenty-two great grandchildren, sister Mary Reichert of Dayton, brother-in-law Morris Spees of Dayton and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her brothers Harold (Rosemary) Vander Horst, Russell (Barbara) Vander Horst, sister Kay Spees and brother-in-law Carl Reichert.
Ruth graduated from the Immaculate Conception Catholic High School as Valedictorian with the class of 1952. She was employed by Dr. B.H. Forsthoefel for 15 years then Dr. Kenneth Sandker for nearly 30 years as an optometric assistant. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina. She belonged to the Altar Society and was a lector for daily Mass where she also led the Rosary. She had a deep devotion to the Rosary and dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She enjoyed walking, sewing, crocheting, and baking.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, February 7, 2025 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Fr. Adam Berning officiating. Burial will be held in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Friends and family may call from 3:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 6, 2025 and from 9:00 A.M. - 10:00 A.M. on Friday at the Lehman Dzendzel Funeral Home.
