Mary Louise (Dammeyer) Schmidt, age 93, of Celina, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 6, 2025, at Celina Manor.
She was born on July 16, 1931, in Auglaize County to the late Elmer and Anna (Quellhorst) Dammeyer. On November 11, 1950, she married the love of her life, Arlan Schmidt, who preceded her in death on November 27, 2010.
Mary is survived by her children: Susan Rammel of Ft. Recovery, Mike (Robin) Schmidt of Celina, Peggy Scott of Bryant, Indiana, and Bruce (Glenna) Schmidt of Celina. She was a proud grandmother to Kim Schmidt of Chillicothe, Brian (Janet) Scott of Ft. Wayne, Chris (Shannon) Schmidt of Celina, Corey (Malisa) Scott of Geneva, Indiana, Bryce Schmidt of Celina, Darren (Abigail) Scott of Fishers, Indiana, and Brock (Daijha Cheatom) Schmidt of Lima, and cherished her ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Joanna Dammeyer of St. Marys.
She was preceded in death by two great-granddaughters, her son-in-law, Walter Rammel, and siblings Chester Dammeyer, Louis (Wanda) Dammeyer, and Ruth (Willis) Henschen.
A 1949 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School, Mary worked in various roles, including as an aide at Gibbons Hospital in Celina, a meat wrapper at Rockford Locker in Rockford, and a machine operator at CTS in Berne, Indiana. She was an active and dedicated member of St. Paul's Country Church in Rockford, where she taught Sunday school for many years and was a member of the Women's Guild. Mary was also involved with the Mercer County Harness Horsemen Association and the Sunshine Singers.
Mary had a deep affection for county fairs, where she and her husband Arlan first crossed paths while showing cows. Over the years, they shared a special bond attending harness horse races together. In her later years, Mary found immense joy in supporting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending their school activities and offering them her unwavering love and encouragement.
