Anthony Luthman
Anthony "Tony" Ray Luthman, age 72, of Sharp Road, Sidney, passed away peacefully of natural causes Monday afternoon, December 9, 2024, at Ohio Living Dorothy Love in Sidney, Ohio.
He was born January 27, 1952, in Sidney, Ohio, to the late Vincent & Betty (Schaffner) Luthman. On October 27, 1979, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Osgood, Tony married Mary "Grace" (Pohlman) Luthman who preceded him in death on August 10, 2020.
Surviving are four children: Benjamin & Erin (Winner) Luthman of Huntsville, Sarah & Aaron Heilers of Anna, Patrick & Melissa (Gaerke) Luthman of McCartyville and Katelin & Luke Hemmelgarn of Fort Loramie; 19 grandchildren: Alice, Louis, Adam, Anthony, James, Esther and Eleanor Luthman, William, Elijah, Luke and Zeke Heilers, Lilly, Vincent and Jackson Luthman and Carly, Harper, Carter, Ella and Jude Hemmelgarn; several sisters & brothers-in-law: Regina Luthman of Sidney, Norma & Irvin Osterloh of Arkdale, WI, Ruth & Thomas Knapke of Celina, Margie & David Bensman of New Bremen, James & Linda Pohlman of Frenchtown, Donald Heitkamp of Pagosa Springs, CO, Henry & Becky Pohlman of Versailles, Marilyn Pohlman of Russia, Teresa Pohlman of Versailles, Sharon Eyink of Montezuma, Ted & Diane Pohlman of Yorkshire and Sam & Betty Pohlman of Yorkshire along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Luthman as well as sisters and brothers-in-law: Elaine Heitkamp, Nick Pohlman, William Pohlman and David Eyink.
Tony was a 1970 graduate of Holy Angels High School and also served in the Ohio National Guard during the Vietnam era. He was owner and operator of Luthman Truck Service and had also been engaged in grain farming all of his working life. Tony was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church where he had been a Eucharistic Minister. He also belonged to the McCartyville Knights of Columbus and the Anna Young Farmers. He was a founding / lifetime member of Anna FFA Alumni and a past officer of the Shelby County Farm Bureau. Tony loved his wife and family; especially interacting with his grandchildren. He was a life-long mechanic and enjoyed keeping the farm machinery in pristine condition.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in McCartyville with Rev. Andrew Reckers presiding. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Family and friends may call Friday, 2:00 to 7:00 PM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie and Saturday 9:00 to 10:00 AM at the church.
Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Anna Rescue Squad or charities of choice. Private condolences may be expressed at the gehretfuneralhome.com website.
