The northern portion of Mercer County and northwest portions of Auglaize County are classified D2 severe drought areas, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. The rest of the counties are under a D1 moderate drought.

According to the National Weather Service, from Sept. 28 to Sunday, Mercer and Auglaize counties had around 1 to 1.5 inches of precipitation. According to the NWS, drought conditions can cause lower crop yields during fall harvest, especially across D1 and D2 areas. Drought conditions can also cause abnormally dry shallow soil moisture values.
