CELINA- A St. Marys woman was charged with abduction on Monday in Mercer County Common Pleas Court, following her initial arrest on Friday after a domestic violence incident that involved assault and the discharge of a firearm in Celina.
Amber M. Moell, 39, was charged with abduction, a third-degree felony. The charge is accompanied by a three-year firearm specification.
If convicted, she faces up to six years in prison and a maximum fine of $10,000. She has not yet been appointed or retained defense counsel, per online court documents.
The indictment alleges that Amber Moell knowingly, by force or threat, restrained the liberty of Jeremy Moell, under circumstances that created a risk of physical harm to Jeremy Moell or placed Jeremy Moell in fear.
The firearm specification, which adds a mandatory three-year imprisonment if convicted, alleges Amber Moell had a firearm on or about her person or under her control while committing the offense and displayed the firearm, brandished the firearm, indicated that she possessed the firearm or used it to facilitate the offense, per the indictment.
Police officers responded to a domestic violence call involving an assault and the discharge of a firearm at about 11:41 p.m. Friday, according to a press release from Celina Police Chief Tom Wale. The female suspect reportedly fled the scene.
The release continues that through the investigation it was found Jeremy Moell, 39, was living at the residence with his two young children. Moell's estranged wife, Amber Moell, came to the residence and an argument ensued.
"He reports that she struck him and then retrieved the 9mm handgun, which was kept at that residence," the release states. "She reportedly threatened him with the gun and then threatened to kill herself. Jeremy Moell tried to disarm Amber Moell. The gun discharged during the attempt. The bullet lodged in a wall. No one was injured and Amber Moell left the scene."
Amber Moell is currently being held at the Mercer County Adult Detention Facility on $250,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 7 for a preliminary hearing.
