Lois Dicke
Lois A. Dicke, age 87, of New Bremen, died on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at 3:35 P.M. at the Vancrest of St. Marys surrounded by her family, Todd, Pam and Chris. She was born on February 8, 1937 in New Bremen, the daughter of the late Herbert A. and Dorothy E. (Howe) Berning. On September 13, 1958, she married Don L. Dicke, who died on May 1, 2013.
She is survived by her children: Pamela Miller, Christine Dicke, and Todd (Brooke) Dicke, all of New Bremen. She will be missed by her grandchildren: Amanda (Luke) Kuenning, Cara (Daryl) Mabry, Jacob Miller, Derek (Jessica) Dicke, Logan (Makaley Brown) Dicke, Brooke (Lucas) Poeppelman, and Bailey Fluke, as well as her great-grandchidren: Nolan, Halle, and Reid Kuenning, Waylon and Owen Mabry, AJ and Brody Dicke, and Rainer Dicke. Also left to cherish her memory are her siblings, Norma (Jerry) Lunney of Delaware Ohio, Marlene Hittepole of New Bremen, JoAnne (Ray) Meckstroth of Alaska, Barabara (Kermit) Freewalt of Minster and Stan (Megan McDonald) Berning of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Along with her parents and husband, Lois was preceded in death by her son Michael Dicke, her step-father Harry Ingram, her brother James (Carol) Berning, and a brother in-law Ron Hittepole.
Lois was a 1955 graduate of New Bremen High School, and she was a lifelong member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen. Lois and her husband, Don, owned and operated the former Dicke Service Station in New Bremen for many years. She also worked at First National Bank of New Bremen, and thoroughly enjoyed her involvement with her customers and coworkers on a daily basis.Her family was her most prized possession and she was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She could often be found cheering on the New Bremen Cardinals at any of the grandkids sporting events and activities. Her love for sports started when she was in GAA (Girl's Athletic Association) before there was organized women's sports, and she was also the Woodman Festival Queen in 1954. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, shopping, and gambling trips. Lois never knew a stranger and greeted everyone with a smile.
Calling Hours will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2024 from 1:00 until 4:00 P.M. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, followed by a Celebration of Life at the New Bremen American Legion Post 241 at 4:00 P.M.
Private family inurnment will take place in the German Protestant Cemetery in New Bremen at a later date. Memorial contributions in memory of Lois may be made to the EverHeart Hospice or to St. Paul Church.
