Sharon Lhamon
Sharon (Bertke) Lhamon, 72, passed away peacefully at home on September 1, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was born on August 8, 1952 to Cy and Dorothy (Dahlinghaus) Bertke, who preceded her in death.
She grew up in Celina, Ohio and graduated from Immaculate Conception in 1970. She went on to Miami University to major in education and ultimately graduated from Wright State University Lake Campus. She was passionate about teaching and touched so many lives in the classrooms at Wapak St Joe, Holy Rosary, Noble School, and McBroom Junior High. She taught for 35 years and her students often commented that Mrs. Lhamon was one of their favorite teachers. She brought so much laughter and joy to the classroom, and always went above and beyond to make sure that each of her students was working up to their potential. She was a selfless and dedicated teacher, earning her recognition as a Jennings Scholar winner. When she retired, she applied those same principles to helping care for her grandchildren. They loved her for her humor, wisdom, and sense of adventure, and any meal made by Grandma Sharon was always a favorite amongst the grandkids!
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Mike Lhamon. She is survived by her son Andy (Beth) Lhamon of Powell, Ohio and her daughter, Katie (Brian) Vanderhorst of Dublin, Ohio and her beloved grandchildren Jake, Josie, Wesley, Bennett, and Audra. She remained close with her sister Denise (Phil) Keegan and her in-laws Barbara Lhamon, Tim Lhamon, and Denise (David) Wirrig and was preceded in death by her brother Don Bertke and sister-in-law Pam Lhamon. She was a loving foster mother to the "Stepleton girls" and a proud aunt to her many nieces and nephews.
Sharon loved life and lived each day to its fullest. She was a fiercely loyal friend as was evidenced by her many social circles. She loved playing bridge, spending time on the lake with her family, traveling, reading, and golfing. She walked three miles almost every day of her life and lived by the motto, "Everything in moderation." She liked her coffee hot and her wine cold, and she loved to cook, but mostly because she loved to eat! Sharon definitely knew how to spot a deal and save a dollar, and a calamity day from school almost always resulted in a fun-filled shopping trip with friends. She was passionate about shoes, but mostly because it was always difficult to find a cute pair to fit her unusually large feet. Sharon will always be remembered for how she made people feel. She was funny, joyful, selfless, loyal, and kind, and the love that she shared with so many people will never be forgotten.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Church and her deep faith helped her through many difficult times in her life. She handled her battle against pancreatic cancer with unparalleled strength and grace. She was ready to be reunited with her husband, Mike, who passed away only one year ago and was looking forward to being welcomed into the arms of Jesus. We are confident that she will be greeted with, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
Her children are grateful for the amazing care that she received from all of her doctors and nurses and especially to Grand Lake Hospice as she transitioned to eternal life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a foundation close to Sharon's heart. Kateswell (kateswell.org) was founded by her daughter and husband in the wake of Katie's battle with cancer. 100% of all donations will go directly to provide financial support to cancer patients in Ohio during their treatment journey.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Saint Marys, Father Adam Berning, celebrant.
Friends may call from 4-8 P.M. Wednesday at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys.
