Franklin Kuenning
Franklin C. Kuenning, age 89, of New Bremen, died on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at the Elmwood Assisted Living of New Bremen.
He was born on November 22, 1934 in New Bremen, the son of the late Allen and Frances C. (Ruese) Kuenning. On November 22, 1986, he married Jeanne L. Helmstetter who survives in New Bremen after sharing 37 wonderful years together.
Also left to cherish Frank's memory are his sons: Keith (Tess) Kuenning of Bow, NH, and Kevin Kuenning of Concord, NH; his step-children: Mary Jo (Dave) Stillwell of Mendon, James (Deb) Ahrns, Jr. of Centerville, and Patti (Gary) Williams of Chattanooga, TN; as well as his eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his son Kirk Kuenning, and his siblings: Stanley (Dona Mae) Kuenning and JoAlice (Jim) Nieter.
Frank was a 1954 graduate of New Bremen High School, and was a long-time member of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen. He had served in the United States Army in Germany as a Sargent in the Infantry from 1957-1959. He had worked at Post Printing in Minster for 40 years until his retirement in 2003, retiring as the vice president and general manager of operations. Frank held memberships at the Minster Eagles #1391, and at the Pinehurst Country Club in North Carolina, and was a dedicated member of the Rooster Club.
As a car enthusiast, Frank loved his vehicles and enjoyed car racing. He also loved playing golf, boating and skiing on Grand Lake and up in Michigan, horse racing, and traveling.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024 at 10:30 A.M. at the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen. Interment will follow in the St. Augustine Cemetery in Minster with military honors.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 18, 2024 from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, and again on Monday, at the church, prior to the Mass from 9:30 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Church of the Holy Redeemer or to Grand Lake Hospice.
