Robert Yahl
Robert E. Yahl, 84, of St. Marys, died Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital.
He was born September 8, 1939, in St. Marys, the son of Joseph and Martha (Greve) Yahl. He married Patricia Dyer on October 17, 1964, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys, and she preceded him in death on April 13, 2013.
He is survived by his twin sons: Brett (Angie) Yahl of St. Marys; Brian (Kim) Yahl of St. Marys; and his daughter: Renee (Craig) Lauth of St. Marys. He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren: Zach Yahl, Erica Lutz, Lorraine Yahl, Stuart Yahl, Chance Yahl, Hope Yahl, Deavan Lauth and Garrett Lauth; by his brothers, Gene (Janice) Yahl and Joseph (Connie) Yahl of St. Marys, and by his close friend, Lois Poly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his grandson, Wyatt Yahl; by his siblings: Irene (Sam) Doseck, Mary (Francis) Brown, Emma (Jim) Clements, Rose (Roger) Braun, Clara (Herm) Lenhart, Sister Rita Yahl, Anthony (Judy) Yahl, William (Mary) Yahl, and Jerome (Esther) Yahl.
Bob attended St. Marys Memorial High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from Goodyear Saint Marys after 30 years of service as a welder. He also held his plumbing license and worked after hours, as additional income for his family, supplying services for neighbors, friends and local businesses. He also was an excellent wood worker and craftsman. He enjoyed playing cards and fishing for anything; salmon, walleye, bluegill and crappie.
In the most recent years he suffered from macular degeneration and only had partial vision, so it did lessen his hobbies of golfing, watching the St. Marys Roughriders, the OSU Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds and the Dallas Cowboys. He perfected his other senses to either listen to a game or find a very large tv to watch it on! His tenacious nature never let him rest long or succumb to the disability. He always found something to keep his mind and body active and sharp. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Marys. Private family burial rites will be held at Gethsemane Cemetery at a later date.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St. Marys.
Memorial gifts will be shared and made to the Grand Lake Hospice and the Lake Improvement Association.
