William Giffin
William Wallace Giffin (Bill) of Lima, Ohio, passed away of natural causes on October 26, 2023.
Bill was born on March 17, 1936, in Lima Ohio, the son of William D. and Erma Giffin.
As a child, he moved with his family to many communities in Ohio following his father's career installing telephone cabling and network equipment throughout the state. Bill graduated from Shawnee High School in 1954 and Ohio Wesleyan University in 1958 and married his high school sweetheart, Judith Ann Yingling that same year. They were married 65 years.
Bill was the owner and co-founder of Giffin insurance, an independent agency he built with his dad over several decades. Bill served in the Ohio Army National Guard as an infantry officer and a commander of the 1st Battalion, 148th Infantry Regiment. He and his unit were called to active duty during periods of unrest in the 1970's, as well as during times of local crisis, and he was proud to serve his country and support the safety of Ohioans over his long career. As a small business owner Bill was very active in his community. A gifted musician, he enjoyed singing in his church choir, the Lima Symphony Chorus, and as a featured soloist in the worship community for decades.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Giffin.
He is survived by his two sons, Bill and Mark Giffin, and six grandchildren. He attended South Side Christian Church in Lima, Ohio.
