Two seek township trustee seat

Union Township Trustee

By Erin Gardner

UNION TOWNSHIP - Incumbent township trustee Austin Harner is being challenged by Brandon Uncapher for an open trustee seat in the Nov. 7 general election. Candidates are presented in alphabetical order.

Austin Harner

Harner is a 29-year-old Celina High School graduate and farmer. He and his father own and operate a farm south of Mendon. He and his wife, Jadrian, of 6 years have four kids.

Harner has been a trustee for four years and is running again because he wants to help "keep the community cleaned up and looking as good as possible for everybody else," he said.

He said he is equipped for the job because he has experience running heavy equipment, plowing snow and taking care of the roads and side ditches.

Brandon Uncapher

Uncapher, is a 41-year-old Parkway High School graduate and owner of Double B Trucking and Livestock, a trucking company.

He has not held public office before.

Uncapher said he is running because he thinks Harner "doesn't put a whole lot of time into it and I guess I'm running to supply more time to the job," he said. "Austin has a lot of other irons in the fire. I think I can supply more time to the township than Austin."

"I know a few people (who's) on township and said Austin didn't put a whole lot of time into it and I guess I was the only one (who) was willing to … run against him," Uncapher continued.
