Harold Gettinger
Harold Gettinger, 87, of Fort Recovery, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, March 29, 2023.
He was born on February 12, 1936, in Jay County, Indiana, to the late Walter and Florence (Sipe) Gettinger.
Harold is survived by his wife of nearly 48 years, Jody (Knudsen) Gettinger, whom he married on April 5, 1975; his children, Harold Scott (Michelle) Gettinger of Phoenix, Arizona, and Pastor Stephen (Julie) Gettinger of Bradford, Ohio; his 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; his siblings, Helen Cole of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Ilene Schwieterman of Portland, Indiana, Delores Reitz of Bluffton, South Carolina, and Fran (Ron) Liggett of Redkey, Indiana.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Jerry Schwieterman, Gordon Cole, and John Reitz.
Harold was a 1954 graduate of Madison High School in Jay County, Indiana. He was a lifelong painter and was a member of the Local #86 of Phoenix, Arizona, and the Local #469 of Fort Wayne, Indiana. He also worked for Nickel Plate Railroad for a few years. Harold was a member of First Church of Christ in Fort Recovery. He loved antique cars and was a member of the Fort Street Car Classic club.
A celebration of Harold's life will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at First Church of Christ, 1049 Union City Road, Fort Recovery, with Pastor David Nicholson officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Guests may visit with Harold's family on Friday, March 31, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Brockman Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery, and again on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service at 11:00 AM at the church. It is the request of the family that guests wear their favorite "car themed" shirt or casual clothing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Woodburn Christian Children's Home, PO Box 459, Woodburn, Indiana, 46797, or the Mercer County Council of Aging, 217 Riley Street, Celina, Ohio 45822.
