Barbara Ann Monnin, 81, a long-time resident of Russia, passed away at 8:55 PM March 22, 2023, at Dorothy Love surrounded by her family in her last days.

She was born February 3, 1942, in Montezuma, OH, to Clement and Irene (Bergman) Homan. On November 24, 1962, she married Bede A. Monnin at St. Henry Catholic Church, and he preceded her in death on June 9, 2013. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2012.

Other survivors include her children Sandy and Randy Hoehne of Fort Loramie, Alan and Sandy (Schmitmeyer) Monnin of Russia, Andrew and Paula (Black) Monnin of Piqua, Neal and Beth (Watercutter) Monnin of Troy, and Randy and Krista (Marantos) Monnin of Madeira; 11 grandchildren, Ryan and Alison (Koppin) Hoehne of Anna, Matt and Megan (Hoehne) Elsass of Anna, Abbey Monnin of Los Angeles, CA, Jacob and Thanh (Dang) Monnin of Centerville, Joseph and Cindy (Mosley) Monnin of St. Marys, Ryne and Kristen (Monnin) Davis of Piqua, Daniel Monnin of Piqua, Nathan Monnin and fiancé Kelsey Magoteaux both of Piqua, Eli Monnin of Troy, and Kate and Drew Monnin of Madeira; 7 great-grandchildren, Ellyse and Nora Hoehne, Quinn and Lydia Elsass, Olivia, Carter, and Lucas Davis, and an eighth on the way in April; in-laws Caroline Monnin of Centerville, Urs Pierron of Troy, Guy and Sharon Monnin of Tipp City, Mark and Lois Monnin of Russia, Rose and Norbert Lachat of Russia, Lucy and Leo Oen of Russia, Ray Monnin of Hilliard, Leon and Dianne Monnin of S. Easton, MA, Clem Monnin of Dayton, and Dorothy Hathaway of Indianapolis, IN.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her father and mother-in-law, Leo and Marie (Guillozet) Monnin, a brother, Mark Homan and in-laws James and Maxine Monnin, Bernard Monnin, Joseph and Phyllis Monnin, Sister Teresa Monnin, Gary Pierron, Doris Monnin, and Dale Hathaway.

Barb was a 1960 graduate of St. Henry High School. After high school she was employed at Celina Insurance Company in the accounting department, at Russia School as a cook, and the Worch Memorial Library in Versailles helping patrons find great reads. She was well known as a self-employed cake decorator who made birthday, graduation, and wedding cakes for many people in the area. She made all her children's wedding cakes. She had a strong faith in the Lord and was devoted to living out that faith through her acts of service for her church and community. Barb was a member of St. Remy Catholic Church and St. Anne's Sodality, and served as president of Catholic Ladies of Columbia. She also served families at funeral luncheons and often brought one of her sought after pies.

She enjoyed volunteering for many different community activities. Most notably, she was a volunteer at Wilson Hospital, the Knotters Quilting Group, and the Twice Around shop at Dorothy Love. She loved spending time with her family, sitting on her front porch swing and gazebo, polka dancing, and attending outdoor concerts. She loved a great cup of coffee and really enjoyed being with her grandkids and great-grandkids. She was a multiple-time winner of the Sidney Daily News cooking contest and at the Shelby County Fair. She had a special talent for sewing, quilting and all kinds of crafts. She always looked forward to traveling and adventures. A few of her favorite experiences were a hot air balloon ride, being the musher of a dogsled team in Alaska, taking a helicopter ride in Hawaii to see the volcanoes, shopping the Christmas Markets in Germany, and seeing the Pope at St. Peter's Square in Vatican City, Italy. Barb and Bede were true partners in marriage, in business, and creating meals and treats from garden to table. She took great care of her husband all the way through his 10-year battle with cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 AM Monday at St. Remy Catholic Church, Russia, with Father Matt Feist as celebrant. Burial will take place at St. Remy Cemetery. In the spirit of this celebration of her life, Barb would want to encourage you to wear colorful attire.
