Chilcoat to be released on $10K bond

Celina man arrested for allegedly partaking in Jan. 6 Capitol riot

By Leslie Gartrell
TOLEDO - A Celina man arrested for allegedly participating in the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol riot will be released on a $10,000 unsecured bond.
Don Chilcoat is set to be released Monday following a detention hearing with Magistrate Darrell Clay in the U.S. District Court's Northern District of Ohio in Toledo on Friday.
His case has been sent to the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, according to a court official on Friday. Chilcoat is being represented by Ryan Parker, whom was appointed by the state.
Chilcoat and his wife, Shawndale, were arrested on Aug. 11 in Celina by Toledo Police Department officers and face six charges each, according to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
The Chilcoats each were charged with felony obstruction or impeding an official proceeding, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
They were also each charged with five misdemeanors - entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds; entering and remaining in the gallery of Congress; disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds; parade, demonstrate or picket in any of the Capitol builds.
Each misdemeanor charge carries a maximum penalty of a fine and up to six months in prison.
The Federal Bureau of Investigations established the Chilcoats were present at the insurrection from posts on social media, phone records and footage from U.S. Capitol Police CCTV and Senate TV recordings, according to a statement of facts provided in the criminal complaint.
