Primary 2022

King wins GOP nod

Rodriguez to face King in Nov. election

By William Kincaid
Angela N. King of Celina emerged victorious in Tuesday's three-way race for the Republican nomination for the Ohio 84th District Seat.
She will advance to the Nov. 8 general election to face off against Democrat Sophia Rodriguez of Celina for the seat. Rodriguez ran unopposed in Tuesday's Democratic primary election.
Also on Tuesday, Republican and Democratic male and female candidates won seats on their party's state central commitee.
King handily defeated her Republican contenders Jacob Larger of New Bremen and Aimee Morrow of Greenville, garnering 61.36% of the total vote from Mercer, Auglaize and Darke counties, per the unofficial results posted on the Ohio Secretary of State's website.
King won the cumulative vote and easily took Mercer and Darke Counties but lost Auglaize County to Larger.
In Mercer County, King captured 3,090 votes or 68.14% of the race total while Larger secured 1,380 votes and Morrow 65 votes, the county's unofficial results show.
The outcome was similar in Darke County where King garnered 1,901 votes or 66.91% of the race total. Larger took in 816 votes and Morrow 124 votes.
Meanwhile Larger narrowly bested King in Auglaize County by a mere 17 votes with 1,819 ballots cast in his favor.
King is a licensed Realtor and small business owner involved in buying, selling and managing real estate investments, she said. She is also in her tenth year of serving as Mercer County Recorder.
"The last several years I have been very concerned about the direction of our country and how some in government are pushing actions to minimize our freedoms and liberties," King said when asked why she's running for House. "I'm concerned about my grandchildren's future."
King pointed to her decades in elected offices, her experience as a small business owner and proven track record in impacting policy at the state and national level as experiences qualifying her for the position.
Also, Keith Cheney and Stephanie Kremer won their races for male and female members to the Republican State Central Commitee. On the other side, Richard C. Kerns and Karen F. Ward won their races for male and female members to the Democratic State Central Committee, unofficial results show.
