Treva Barhorst
Treva Pauline (Zimmerman) Barhorst, age 93, of Minster, passed away of natural causes Friday morning, March 18, 2022, at the Wilson Health Hospital ER in Sidney, Ohio.
She was born April 8, 1928, in Fort Loramie, Ohio, to the late Mathias & Sophia (Brandewie) Zimmerman. On November 19, 1949, at St. Michael Church in Fort Loramie, Treva married Vernon W. Barhorst who preceded her in death on September 28, 2012.
Surviving are seven children (& spouses): V. Glen & Jeanne Barhorst of Anna, Randall & Denise Barhorst of Newport, Mark & Vicki Barhorst of Fort Loramie, Elaine & Jay Sargeant of Sidney, Theresa & John Buschur of Anna, Lori Hausfeld & Jim Prenger of Springboro, Mitchell & Jill Barhorst of Minster and special members of the family, Dianne & Earl Winner of Minster; 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; two siblings, Matt Zimmerman of Fort Loramie and Annette & Dave Haraburda of Chicago; one sister-in-law, Lillian Zimmerman of Minster along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Peggy and Jane Barhorst; a son-in-law, Tom Hausfeld and granddaughter, Kacie Hausfeld; seven siblings (& spouses): Mary Rita & Clarence Poeppelman, Burkhardt & Shirley Zimmerman, Angela Zimmerman, Richard Zimmerman, Sr. Constance Zimmerman, John & Edna Zimmerman and infant Carl Zimmerman; a sister-in-law, Doris Jean Zimmerman as well as several brothers & sisters-in-law from the Barhorst family.
Treva was a 1946 graduate of Fort Loramie High School. She had been a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, a past longtime member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church and lifetime member of the Rosary Alter Society. A homemaker, dedicated to her family, Treva enjoyed playing cards, solving word puzzles, building jigsaw puzzles, quilting and sewing. Years ago, she and Vernie especially enjoyed ballroom dancing.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Thursday, March 24, 2022, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Newport with Rev. Steven Shoup presiding. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Friends may call Wednesday 4:00 to 7:00 PM and Thursday 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie.
Memorials may be made to the Kacie and Thomas Hausfeld Memorial Scholarship Fund (of the Dayton Foundation) or charities of choice.
