Margaret Chesser Braun
Margaret (Peggy) Louise Chesser Braun died of a pulmonary embolism at her home in Henderson, Nevada on February 23, 2021.
Peggy was born on October I, 1958 in Coldwater, Ohio, the daughter of Walter and Evelyn Braun.
She is survived by her two sons, Drew of Atlanta, Georgia, and Brendan of Las Vegas, Nevada, as well as her seven brothers and three sisters, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
An avid reader, social butterfly, and consummate giver, Peggy graduated from Coldwater High School in 1976, and then from the Dental Hygiene Program at Ohio State University in 1980 to follow her passion of helping others to enjoy their smiles. With courage in her life as in her career, she had the opportunity to live, work, and explore in Europe for years after marrying into the United States Air Force and before settling back down in the states. Once stateside, she dutifully traversed the country across its many air force bases, ending up in Henderson, Nevada, where she would raise her two boys and make her career.
As a leader in the dental hygienist community, Peggy inspired others with her intelligence, fantastic clinical skill, and loving energy. She served as a delegate for the American Dental Hygienists' Association, and was influential in speaking in favor of policy changes on behalf of military members and spouses. Peggy served as President for the Nevada Dental Hygienists' Association from 2013-2014 and, at the end of her term, gave everyone a purple passion plant to symbolize the continued growth for hygiene. Peggy was also a part of the College of Southern Nevada's mentoring program, taking many dental hygiene students under her wing to guide them along their dental hygiene journey.
Peggy was a pioneer with the perioscope - a technological device developed for the treatment of periodontal disease - and was the first hygienist in Nevada to start her own perioscopy business. She gave lectures on the perioscope and trained many fellow dentists and dental hygienists to acquire this skill. Peggy offered her time to teach others without asking for anything in return.
She loved her career of helping others so much that she devoted countless hours volunteering at various community events to provide dental care to the homeless and less fortunate residents. Her compassion showed as patients adored her and often followed her from office to office. She equally would care for them both as a patient and as a person. She developed long-lasting friendships with her patients and cared for them as if they were her own family.
More than anything, Peggy's passion was being a mother to her two boys - Brendan and Drew. As a single mother, she worked tirelessly to make sure they were well provided for. Peggy dedicated her life to being the best mother and role model to her boys, and was so proud of the gentlemen that they have become.
A private Memorial Service was held April 10, 2021 in Nevada and another was held May 29, 2021 in Mercer County, Ohio.
