Patricia Cook
Patricia A. Cook, 89, of St. Marys, OH died 7:20 p.m. Thursday April 1, 2021 at Otterbein of St. Marys, following a lengthy battle with the effects of Alzheimer's Disease. Pat had been a resident there for over eight years, and she was beloved by the staff.
She was born October 28, 1931 in Mercer Co., OH to Joseph and GoldieMae (Shimp) Wurster. On July 3, 1952 in St. Marys, OH she married Frederick J. Cook, who died February 6, 2012.
Survivors include: son Mark (Mary) Cook of Springboro, OH; son Dennis (Barbara) Cook of St. Marys, OH; son Dan (Robin) Cook of St. Marys, OH; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Delores Bubp of Springfield, OH; sister Marjorie Heppeard of Mendon, OH; sister Sue (Larry) Hecht of New Knoxville, OH.
Preceded in death by: parents Joseph and Goldie Mae Shimp; husband Frederick Cook; sister Gwen Walters
She was a graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School (Class of 1949) and earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Wright State University. She retired from the St. Marys City Schools, where she taught 2nd grade at Bunker Hill and Noble Schools for many years. She was admired and respected by her students and fellow teachers. An active member of the St. Marys Church of the Nazarene, she served as the church treasurer, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and was president of its missionary program, and headed-up its Vacation Bible School program.
Faith and family were the cornerstone's of Pat's life. Pat was a good, sweet and loving person who always had a kind word for everyone. She loved spending time with her family (especially her grandchildren) and was always doing things for others. She also enjoyed cooking, baking and caring for her flowers. She was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds, and her favorite player was Johnny Bench. Later in life, she also became a fan of the Cleveland Browns.
Rites are scheduled to begin at 12:00 noon on Wednesday April 7, 2021 at the Miller Funeral Home 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West) in St. Marys. The Rev. Tim Smith will officiate the services.
Visitation 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer's Assoc.
