Mercer County records 31st COVID death

159 new local cases reported over weekend

CELINA - One new death from COVID-19 was reported in Mercer County over the weekend, raising the county's total to 31.

The number of COVID-19 cases in the county also increased by 83 over the weekend, raising the county's total to 1,924.

Auglaize County officials reported 76 new confirmed cases over the weekend, raising that county's total to 1,388.

Mercer County Health District officials did not have additional information on the most recent death available by press time.

Officials in a social media post on Monday also reported 245 probable cases, 22 hospitalizations, 1,551 people who have recovered and two probable deaths from COVID-19. Of the 1,924 confirmed cases, 339 are active.

In a separate matter, members of the Parkway High School boys basketball team will not need to quarantine despite early concerns they would need to, Parkway superintendent Jeanne Osterfeld said on Monday.

Osterfeld said in an email without further explanation that district officials earlier in the day had been waiting to hear from health district officials about whether the players would need to quarantine. Later in the afternoon they learned they would not need to do so.

An Auglaize County news release also reported 286 probable cases, 96 total hospitalizations, 860 people who have recovered and 16 deaths from COVID-19. Of the 1,674 total confirmed and probable cases, 786 are active.

The breakdown of total cases throughout the county are Wapakoneta, 572; St. Marys, 479; Minster, 270; New Bremen, 172; Cridersville, 77; Waynesfield, 44; New Knoxville, 34; Spencerville, seven; the Botkins area, four; St. Johns, three; Uniopolis, three; New Hampshire, two; the Lakeview area, two; the Lima area, two; Buckland, two; and the Mendon area, one.

As of Monday evening, the Ohio Department of Health reported 254,974 confirmed and probable cases in the state, 20,651 hospitalizations and 5,524 confirmed and probable deaths from COVID-19.
