Auglaize County Fair a go, manager says

WAPAKONETA - The Auglaize County Fair will go on Aug. 2-8 this year, according to manager Ed Doenges.
Doenges said fair board members met last week and decided to continue with the Junior Fair, and met again on Monday and approved proceeding with this year's other events with some restrictions.
Doenges said many of the fair's main attractions, such as events at the grandstand and the gospel tent, will still go on with measures to ensure social distancing. However, work still needs to be done on how best to adhere to social-distancing guidelines such as how to keep the grandstand and gospel tent at 50% capacity.
"The fair won't look like normal, and things will have to change," he said.
The grandstand's cheerleading competition has been canceled this year, Doenges said, since most teams come from school districts that have been shuttered since mid-March.
Fair officials wrote in a Facebook post that rides will still be available.
While the fair may not look as it has in the past, Doenges said he hopes families will enjoy it all the same.
"We're just working through how we can do things safely and correctly," he said. "I just hope people come out and enjoy the fair with us."
