Marjorie Mace
Marjorie Ann Mace passed peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at the age of 67.
Marjorie was born April 2, 1953, to Marjorie (Brock) and Haskel Mace Jr. in Delaware County, Indiana. Raised in Muncie, IN, which she referred to as "the armpit of America," she set out to travel the country after finishing beauty school.
She made the most of her independence as a young woman and wove a beautiful pattern through highs and lows, colors and darkness. Marjorie embraced fascinating people from all walks of life and had a passion for conversation. She had the time and patience to listen to anyone in need.
At the age of 33, Marjorie gravitated back toward her place of birth and eventually settled in Ohio, where she cultivated a supportive community of friends and chosen family. She wrapped herself in a blanket of stories from all the places and people she met, and they gave her shelter from life's storms.
Marjorie always gripped fiercely to her independence despite facing many challenges. A private but prolific writer, artist, and music trivia afficionada, she instilled in her children an appreciation of the eclectic. She was punctual, fashionable, stubborn, and beyond beautiful.
Her star now rises to meet those who left this world before her: parents Marjorie and Haskel; nephew Todd Wayne Constant; and her amazing son, David Israel Matthew Mace.
She is survived by her sweetheart of 28 years, James "my honey Jimmy" McDowell; beloved daughter Sasha Danielle Paris Mace and adopted-son-in-law Eldon Michael Conner; daughter-in-law Gulnara (Khakimovna) Mace; three cherished grandchildren: David Micah, Marisa Veronica, and Ophelleia Cinder Jorie Mace; siblings Bobby Ray Mace Sr., Garry Wayne Mace, Yvonne (Bill) Nichols; and great niece and nephew Jordan Ray Mace and Chelsey Leigh Drake.
A sunset gathering and celebration of Marjorie's life will be held at the farm, 9786 Eichar Rd., Rockford, OH, on Saturday, June 20, from 7:30 to 10:00 PM. Old souls and those with compromised immune systems are encouraged to call from 6:30 to 7:30 PM.
Ashes will be returned to the earth during a tree-planting ceremony followed by a paper lantern tribute at dark. Masks not required but social distancing will be observed, and sanitizing stations and spaced seating provided.
Memorial contributions may be addressed to James McDowell at the same address. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating garden soil or perennial starts so that the garden Marjorie had planned can be completed.
