Ronald Wendel
Ronald L. "Ron" Wendel, age 74, of St. Henry, passed away May 12, 2020 at Briarwood Village, Coldwater.
He was born June 2, 1945, in Celina, to the late Rochus and Mildred (Beyke) Wendel. On February 27, 1976, he married Karen (Quinter) Wendel, who survives.
Also surviving are his children, Chuck & Heather Wendel of Cassella, Dennis & Melissa Wendel of St. Henry and Greg Wendel of Wendelin; his grandchildren, Kendra, Amber, Alan, Emily, Claire, Molly, Renee & Tyler; his siblings, Delores & Andy Schlarman of St. Rose, William & Marie Wendel of Chickasaw, Rita Wynk of Carthagena, Rosann & Clete Prenger of Minster, Kathleen Wendel of Wendelin, Don Wendel of Wendelin, Janet Kuck of Chickasaw, Dave & Eileen Wendel of Fort Recovery, Marjorie & Nick Meier of St. Rose and Ernest & Marilyn Wendel of Wendelin; a brother-in-law, Dan Bruns of Chickasaw; a sister-in-law, Marilyn (Quinter) Wendel of Fort Recovery; in-laws, Les & Pat Quinter of Coldwater; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert "Bob" Wendel and Mary Bruns; brothers-in-law, Robert Wynk and Dave Kuck; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clarence and Mary Catherine Quinter.
He was a 1964 graduate of Fort Recovery High School. Ron worked as a farmer in St. Peter, St. Joe and Wendelin, followed by stints at New Idea, Crown Equipment and retired as a milk technician for DHIA.
He was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Wendelin, where he served as an usher and a rosary leader. He was a founding member of the Wendelin Sports Club.
Ron was also a member of the Knights of St. John and its uniform rank, Maria Stein, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Coldwater, and Catholic Financial Life, St. Joe. In addition, Ron served on the lunch stand committee at the Maria Stein Country Fest for many years.
Ron enjoyed working in his garden, canning, and cooking. He was especially fond of cooking dinner for his kids and grandkids every Sunday and cooking for Wendelin Sports Club events. Ron was also an avid St. Henry and Ohio State sports fan. He spent a lot of time around a campfire and playing cards with his wife, Karen and their friends, also known as their "card club."
Due to COVID-19 a private Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Friday, May 15, 2020 at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, with Fr. Jim Smith as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Wendelin Cemetery.
