'Do Good' is more than a name

OSGOOD - A Cassella woman is overjoyed by the outpouring of support from the community for her new restaurant and ministry. "The response has been wonderful. We're busy all the time," she added.
Karen Homan recalled being directed by the Holy Spirit to open Do Good Restaurant and Ministry at the location of the former Silver Spur, 25 W. Main St., Osgood.
She tried to ignore the voice at first, but it was persistent. Homan said she gathered support from the community, purchased the location and had the former Silver Spur demolished and broke ground last December.
She hopes the restaurant/ministry serves as gathering place for people who may might not have time to attend a service.
Every detail of the three-story building, which was designed by Garmann-Miller Architects for free and constructed by Baumer Construction for a reduced price, was influenced by God, she said.
All profits from the restaurant on the main floor go toward the ministry's services.
More than 20 area children attend the ministry's tutoring services, and she plans to begin offering services such as health care and Bible study in the coming months. On the third floor is more seating space featuring a life-sized mural of the Last Supper.
Homan said the ministry gives back to the community by donating all tips to someone in need. Last month, $18,000 was donated to someone who was severely burned, and this month it plans to help the family of a child who was struck by a garbage truck last year, she noted.
Do Good Restaurant and Ministry is open 8 a.m.- 9 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m.-noon Friday-Saturday. It is closed on Sunday. The restaurant can be reached at 419-582-4663.
