Fatal crash probed

CHICKASAW - The cause of a traffic crash that resulted in the death of a New Bremen teenager remained under investigation Monday, according to Mercer County Chief Deputy Gery Thobe.
Mercer County Central Dispatch reportedly received a call at 11:47 p.m. Sunday from a passerby who noticed a truck had crashed off State Route 274 east of St. Johns Road. Deputies determined the 2002 Ford pickup truck had been heading east on State Route 274 when it crossed the roadway and went off the north side of the road for an unknown reason and had struck a power pole.
The driver, Zoe A. Lane, 17, was reportedly ejected from her vehicle upon impact and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mercer County Sheriff's deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from the Chickasaw Fire Department, St. Henry squad and Mercer County Emergency Response Volunteers.
The crash remains under investigation.
