District 5 ACME Championship Game

Van Wert finishes off St. Marys

St. Marys' Braeden Trogdlon had two hits against Van Wert.

Van Wert scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull away and defeat St. Marys 9-3 in the completion of the ACME baseball District 5 championship game on Tuesday at Shawnee High School.
Van Wert (12-2-3) travels to the state tournament in Coldwater starting Saturday. The Cougars face District 4 champion Minster at 2:30 p.m. in a quarterfinal game.
The game was suspended due to weather on Monday with Van Wert leading 4-2 in the top of the sixth. The Cougars scored a run to go up 5-2 with St. Marys responding in the bottom of the inning when Andrew Ibrahim singled home Derek Fisher.
Van Wert put the game away with five runs in the top of the seventh. Turner Whitten singled home TJ Reynols. Hunter Bollenbaugh later scored on an error, followed by Jacob Place singling home pinch-runner Logan Collins. The final run come when Kaien Bates scored on an error.
Parker Conrad took over pitching from Owen Treece, who held St. Marys to just five hits on Monday, and closed the game out to earn a save.
Braeden Trogdlon had two hits and an RBI for St. Marys.
