Fort student is arrested after alleged threats

FORT RECOVERY - A Fort Recovery High School student was arrested on Thursday after being accused of making threats to student and staff safety.

Fort Recovery police responded to the school at the request of superintendent Justin Firks to look into reports of threats directed toward students and staff safety, according to a police department news release. No immediate threat to students or staff was found and no one was injured.

Officers arrested a 15 year-old male student on a felony charge of inducing panic. No weapons were located in the school after a search by school staff, and none were found at the student's residence after a search by the Mercer County Juvenile Probation Department and Fort Recovery police.

"I want to assure you that student, staff and campus safety continue to be our top priority, and it will remain our focus," Firks said in a separate district news release. "We will continue to cooperate with law enforcement and follow district policies and procedures designed to protect our students and staff during this active investigation."

The Mercer County Sheriff's Office, St. Henry Police Department and Mercer County Prosecutor's Office also assisted in the investigation and arrest, according to Fort Recovery Police Chief Jared Laux.
