Car goes into Grand Lake

A car sits in Grand Lake in Celina on Sunday night. The driver, who was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, reportedly thought he was in a turnaround space and drove into the water, according to Celina police.

CELINA - No one was injured after a car reportedly drove into Grand Lake on Sunday night.

Celina police officers at about 9:55 p.m. responded to a report of a car in the lake just off the intersection of Lake Shore Drive and Ash Street. Upon arrival they found a 2009 Nissan Altima partially submerged in the water.

The driver, 61-year-old David H. Szwajkowski, of Schererville, Indiana, was out of the car but still in the water, according to a news release from the Celina Police Department. He was reportedly pulled from the water, uninjured, by a responding officer.

According to the release, Szwajkowski
said he thought he was in a turnaround area when he drove into the water. He submitted to field-sobriety testing and a breath test.

He reportedly had a blood alcohol content level of 0.172, more than twice the legal limit of .08. He was arrested and charged with OVI and taken to the Mercer County Adult Detention Center.
