Arson may be cause of house fire

By Ed Gebert
ST. MARYS - Fire investigators are looking into a possible arson that nearly destroyed an abandoned home at 17424 Koenig Road early Sunday morning.
According to an Ohio State Fire Marshal's Office spokesperson, the blaze was incendiary in nature and began in the living room area of the house.
According to St. Marys Fire Chief Douglas Ayers, the fire destroyed about 75 percent of the structure. The call was received at 5:55 a.m. Sunday, and crews were at the scene by 6:05 a.m. About eight fire vehicles responded with about 25 firefighters.
No one was injured battling the blaze. Crews remained at the scene for just over six hours, including time spent investigating.
Ayers asked anyone with any information about this fire to contact either the St. Marys Fire Department at 419-394-2361 or the Ohio State Fire Marshal's Office at 800-589-2728.
St. Marys Fire Department was assisted by St. Marys Township, Celina and New Knoxville fire departments.
