St. Marys residents killed in accident

LIMA - Two St. Marys residents died on Wednesday afternoon as a result of a motor vehicle accident.
Alexa K. Tippie, 67, and her daughter, also named Alexa K. Tippie, 45, were the front- and rear-seat passengers in a 2015 Hyundai driven by Phyllis Goodson, 70, Lima, the Tippies' sister and aunt, respectively. Goodson's vehicle was eastbound on State Route 117 when she reportedly failed to stop at the red light at the intersection of Shawnee Road, according to a Shawnee Township Police Department news release.
The Hyundai reportedly proceeded to jump the curb in front of the Pony Keg at 1201 Shawnee Road and then struck a Freightliner delivery truck parked there. The truck was then pushed into a 2018 Ford Fusion also parked there, the release stated.
The two Tippie women died as a result of their injuries shortly after having arrived at St. Rita's Medical Center, according to the release. Goodson also reportedly was transported to St. Rita's and later taken by emergency helicopter to a hospital in Toledo.
The Hyundai was totaled, while the truck had to be towed from the scene and the Ford sustained minor damage, according to the release.
Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected to be factors at this time. The accident remains under investigation, the release stated.
