Paul Heim
Paul Heim, Jr., age 92, formerly of Angel Fire, NM, passed peacefully on February 27, 2018 at his home in Celina, OH.
He was born on July 30, 1925, in Clinton, MI to the late Paul and Cecelia (Schwab) Heim, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Bernice (Langenkamp) Heim.
Other survivors include three daughters from a previous marriage, Sandra McNeal, Dublin, TX, Renee (David) Synder, San Marcos, CA, and Dianne (Kevin) Stein, Tonopah, AZ; a sister, Shirley (the late Robert) Smith, Denver, CO; a brother, Gary Heim; brothers and sisters–in–law, Joseph (the late Shirley) Langenkamp, Celina, Patricia (Lavern) Wente, Minster, OH, Theresa (John) Cangelosi, Richmond Heights, OH, Marjorie (Joseph) Grieshop, Harlan, KY, Roberta (James) Chilimigras, Bay St. Louis, MS, Jane (Ronald) Obringer, Rockford, OH, Jerry (Susan) Langenkamp, Prescott, WI, Connie (Paul) Simons, Naperville, IL, Mary (Walter) Wagor, Canton, OH, Kathryn (Peter Peroutka) Langenkamp, Greenville, NC, David (Cindy) Langenkamp, Celina, Michael (Angela) Langenkamp, Louisville, KY, Elizabeth (Todd) Dammeyer, Versailles, OH, Gregory (Nina McDaniel) Langenkamp, Celina, and the late Walter Langenkamp.
Also preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia (John) Weipert, and Jeanne (Boyd) Nesbitt.
Paul served his country in the United States Army, he enlisted on his 18th birthday in 1943. He saw action in the Battle of the Bulge in WWII. On returning to the US, he went to Michigan State University on the GI Bill and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He worked at Detroit Diesel, then Giffles & Vallet Company as a draftsman on Atomic Energy. He then worked at Briggs Company which manufactured car bodies for Chrysler. When this company was bought out by Chrysler, Paul worked as a plant engineer for Chrysler for the rest of his career at plants in Michigan, Missouri, and Dayton, OH. He took early retirement from Chrysler in 1980.
After retirement Paul and Bernice moved to Angel Fire, NM in 1989. He was active for many years in St. Mel's/Holy Angel's Catholic Church, where he was an usher and Eucharistic minister. He enjoyed hiking, camping, backpacking, reading, watching movies about the military during the Civil War and WWII, camping in National Parks out west, and skiing as a member of the Moreno Valley Trekkers, where he was a charter member and served as the first treasurer and a hike leader. He also headed up the Hackers and Whacker golf group for many years.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, March 9, 2018 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, with Fr. Vince Wirtner, C.PP.S., officiating. To conclude the services, military honors will be provided by the Celina American Legion Post 210 and Celina VFW Post 5713.
The family will receive friends on Friday, from 9:00 am–10:00 am at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina.
Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM.
