Paul Honigford
Paul A. Honigford of Coldwater, age 85, died Friday December 29, 2017 at home surrounded by family. Paul passed away following a long battle with Parkinson's disease, which he faced with grace and courage.
He was born February 11, 1932 in Ottoville to the late Clem D. & Bertha (Weber) Honigford.
On April 12, 1958, he married Mary M. (Ruen), who dedicated herself to taking loving care of her husband for the duration of his illness. She survives him in their home in Coldwater. He is also survived by six children: Greg & Brenda Honigford of Coldwater, Kevin Honigford & Kim Pohlman of Indianapolis, Indiana, Tom Honigford & Sharon O'Connor of South Royalton, Vermont, James & Celeste Honigford of Sugarcreek, Larry & Ann Honigford of West Chester and David & Julie Honigford of Oregonia. He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren and siblings Richard & Dolly Honigford of Landeck, Dorothy Fuerst of Lima, Marilyn & Dan Walsh of Lima, and Betty & Dan Wannemacher of Elida.
He was preceded in death by brothers Harold (and wife Margie) Honigford and Jerry (and wife Carol) Honigford and in-laws Gene Fuerst and Don Knippen.
His family will always remember Paul as a wonderful card player - one who always figured out what was in your hand (especially the beginner Euchre players!) - and as a calming and easy-going presence in our lives. Paul loved to travel, both nationally and internationally, and enjoyed camping and hiking.
He was an active community member, serving as a member of Holy Trinity Church, Coldwater, Men's Holy Name, Coldwater K of C, a charter member and past president of the Coldwater Kiwanis, the board of zoning appeals, and the Coldwater V.F.W. Paul was a veteran of the US Army in the early 1950s and played baseball and basketball for his unit. He was a family man who successfully raised a large family on the modest salary of a grocery produce manager. His family became the K of C Family of the Year in Ohio in 1981.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3 PM on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Holy Trinity Church, Coldwater. Burial with military rites will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater. Friends may call from 1 to 6 PM on Monday with a celebration of life at 6 PM and 1:30 to 2:30 PM on Tuesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater. In lieu of flowers the family requests donation to the Parkinson's Foundation or State of the Heart Care, a hospice agency whose nurses and aides provided loving and compassionate care toward the end.
