No students hurt in car-bus crash

Coldwater firefighters on Wednesday tend to the driver of a Hyundai sedan after his vehicle rear-ended a Coldwater Exempted Village Schools bus.
COLDWATER - No children were seriously injured in a collision on Wednesday involving a school bus and a Hyundai sedan, but the sedan's driver was taken to the hospital, according to Mercer County Sheriff's Capt. Doug Timmerman.
About 3:14 p.m., James L. Nuding was driving his Hyundai in the 5400 block of State Route 219, Coldwater, when he failed to stop his vehicle and it rear-ended a stopped Coldwater Exempted Village Schools school bus. Nuding was taken to Mercer Health Community Hospital, Coldwater, by Coldwater EMS, Timmerman said.
The 33 children on bus No. 18 were checked for injuries. Only one reported a minor injury. Timmerman said the child was picked up by the parents. Bus driver Tony Stammen also was unharmed. The children were transferred onto bus No. 17.
Timmerman said Nuding was issued a citation for failure to maintain an assured, clear distance ahead.
The sedan sustained disabling damage to the front, while the bus sustained functional damage to the rear end.
Coldwater Fire Department personnel also responded to the scene.
