Fort board learns of lower fee for student sports event passes

FORT RECOVERY - Prices for student season passes for all sports have been cut from $85 to $40, district athletic director Kurt Rammel said at Tuesday's school board meeting.
Rammel told board members he didn't believe the change would affect finances, but he hopes students and their parents will recognize the deal and pack the stands at athletic events.
"I went back and looked at the numbers, and I think the most we sold in the last 10 years was 13 passes to our students, and since we've dropped the price as of this afternoon, we had 19 sold already to students," he said.
Superintendent Justin Firks said he doesn't think the lower price will be a huge hit to district finances and discussed a possible trade-off - with more students attending events, increased concessions sales might make up the difference.
In other business, district officials are working with village officials to create a utility easement for the reconstruction of William Street. As part of the project, district officials will be required to install sidewalks on district property within a year of the project's completion, Firks said. The estimated cost for the sidewalks is $24,217.
Board members also reviewed and approved a security services agreement between the district and the village. Any Fort Recovery police officers who provide security at athletic events will be compensated by the village. In the past, officers were paid directly by the district, but due to worker compensation issues, change was needed, Firks said.
The village instead will bill the district and pay the officers with what they received, according to village administrator Randy Diller.
Also on Tuesday, board members,
• approved a resolution to allow Fort Recovery High School seniors attending Tri Star Career Compact to drive themselves to the St. Marys Tri Star site due to the impracticality of the district's providing transportation.
• approved bus routes for the 2017-2018 school year.
