Indiana woman killed in area crash

FORT RECOVERY - The victim of Thursday morning's fatal accident at the intersection of Ohio-Indiana State Line and Lowry roads has been identified as 24-year-old Kylee Renee Wells of Union City, Indiana.

This marks Mercer County's fourth traffic crash fatality this year, Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey said in a news release.

An investigation from the Traffic Crash Reconstruction Team revealed Wells was driving a 2013 Buick SUV northbound on state Line Road at about 7:45 a.m. when she failed to yield for a stop sign on Lowry Road, according to the release. Her vehicle reportedly was struck by a westbound 2007 Dodge pickup truck driven by Ryan D. Siefring, 27, Burkettsville. Siefring also had a passenger, Leon A. Post, 51, St. Henry. Both heavily damaged vehicles came to rest in a grassy area near a large white barn on the Indiana side of the road.

Wells reportedly was pronounced dead at the scene by a member of the Jay County Indiana Coroner's Office. Siefring and Post were transported to Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater. Siefring and Post suffered incapacitating injuries. Their current conditions were not available this morning.

Wells and Post were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident, while Siefring was not. It is not yet known if alcohol was involved.

Deputies of the Mercer County Sheriff's Office were assisted at the scene by members of the Jay County Sheriff's Office, Jay County EMS, Mercer County EMS, Fort Recovery Fire Department, Salamonie Indiana Fire Department, Jay County Coroner's Office and Mercer County Emergency Response Volunteers.
