Robert Makley
Robert E. "Bob" Makley, 81, Saint Marys, died 2:18 A.M. Tuesday, July 4, 2017, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital.
He was born October 4, 1935, in Saint Marys, the son of Charles "John" and Gretchen (Zimmerman) Makley. He married Doris Hemmelgarn on July 12, 1958, in Portland, Indiana, and she survives at the residence.
He is also survived by his children: Arlan Makley of Saint Marys; Anthony (Heather) Makley of Saint Marys; Amy (Ralph) Bonifas of Coldwater, Ohio. He is survived by 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; by a very special friend, Bill Wurster of Saint Marys. He is survived by his siblings: Charles "Bobo" Makley of Wapakoneta; Beverly (Bud) Hunton of Huber Heights; Betty Henning of Saint Marys; Mary Frey of Saint Marys; Wilma Ginter of Saint Marys; Ila Makley of Saint Marys; Carol Richardson of Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his parents; by his siblings Jack Makley, George Makley and Ruth Makley; by two grandchildren: Olivia Fraley and Andrew "Andy" Makley.
Bob was a 1953 graduate of Saint Marys Memorial High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Saint Marys Foundry Company, where he was a supervisor. Bob liked watching the Cleveland Browns play, and he enjoyed golfing and fishing. He loved his dog, Tinker.
He was a member of Coldwater Post 470 of the American Legion, where he was past commander; he was also a member of VFW Post 9289, where he had served as past commander.
Funeral rites will be held 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 10, 2017, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys, Pastor Keith Stuck, officiant. Military honors will be conducted by the VFW and American Legion.
Friends may call from 2-6 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home, where memorial gifts may be given to either First Baptist Church or Grand Lake Hospice.
