Permit OK'd to shoot birds on football field

ROCKFORD - The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has granted Parkway Local Schools a hunting permit to help fight an invasion of turkey vultures at the football field.

Rockford Police Chief Paul May told the newspaper the permit will allow the "destruction of up to five buzzards in the area." This will occur on April 1.

Area residents were told to expect to hear gunshots. May said police officers will be in the area to ensure safety. He asks for cooperation from neighbors.

May said the vultures also turned up at the field last year.
