Marian Burnell
Marian Jean Mellott Burnell, age 87, of Galion and formerly of Edison, went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday morning, January 26, 2017, at Magnolia Terrace in Galion.
Marian was born on January 7, 1930 at home in Mount Gilead, the only child of the late Fred Dennis and Vera Vern (West) Mellott. She lived on a farm where her family raised cows, sheep and horses. She attended Edison Elementary School and graduated from Mount Gilead High School in the Class of 1947.
On August 1, 1948, she married her high school sweetheart, Lawrence Edward Burnell. They shared over 66 years as husband and wife before he preceded her in death on December 31, 2014.
Marian worked at North Electric until she had children and then stayed at home to raise them. During that time she started Marian's Cakes, which she was well known for across Morrow and surrounding counties for her beautiful and artistic cakes and cookies of all kinds.
A woman of faith, she was a member of the Denmark United Methodist Church and enjoyed teaching Sunday school classes there for many years.
In her spare time Marian enjoyed gardening, reading, was an avid bowler and very active in Canaan Grange. Her favorite past time was watching football, basketball and baseball, and she was a true Buckeye fan.
She spent much of her time sending greeting cards to everyone she loved and cared about.
Marian will be dearly missed by her three children: Dennis (Sue) Burnell of New Bremen, OH, Patricia (Steve) Stansbery of Edison, LuAnn (Steve) Bloomfield of Mount Gilead; nine grandchildren: Shanna (Tony) Bales of Brunswick, Dr. Shawn (Alicia) Stansbery of Bowling Green, Brian (Kelly) Pangborn of Mount Gilead, Stephanie (Steve) Barr of Caledonia, Trent (Becky) Bloomfield of Findlay, Emily Burnell of New Bremen, Molly (Jay) Schwartz of St. Henry, Nathan Burnell of Charleston, South Carolina, Amy (Tom) Wilker of New Bremen; 16 great grandchildren: Drew and Ben Bales, Hayden and Owen Pangborn, Parker, Gabriella and Ethan Barr, Nicolas and Jacob Bloomfield, Allison, Grace, Lillian, Alexa and Olivia Wilker, Ingrid Stansbery, J.J. Schwartz; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Wrhel of Mount Gilead; a nephew, Ed (Debbie) Burns of Warsaw, IN; and a niece, Cindy (Ken) Mercer of Harrisville, RI.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Larry Burnell in 1990.
Marian's family will greet friends from 2–4 p.m. on Sunday, February 5, 2017, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead.
Services to honor and celebrate her life will be held there at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor David Smith and her son-in-law, Pastor Stephan Bloomfield officiating. A private family burial will take place at a later date in Bryn Zion Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Denmark United Methodist Church or to Gideons International, and may be made in care of the funeral home.
