Mendon council approves $1.19 million appropriations for 2017, accepts tax rates

MENDON - Village council members at Tuesday's meeting approved appropriations of $1.19 million for 2017.
Members also accepted a few supplemental appropriations for 2016 to complete purchases for the current year. Also accepted were the amounts and rates of levies as determined by the budget commission. Mendon voters in November renewed a 2.3-mill current expenses levy and a 2.5-mill street repair levy.
Also at Tuesday's meeting, council members,
• were reminded by street commissioner Randy Severns to be prepared for winter storms and power outages.
• heard from several attendees who remarked on the village's successful Festival of Trees held earlier this month.
• renewed the contract for village solicitor Ross Finke at a rate of $200 per month.
• discussed planting a tree in the village cemetery. No decision was made.
• approved November purchase orders and checks in the amount of $82,543. Mileage was paid to fiscal officer Kristina Boroff in the amount of $33.
• set the next council meeting for 6:30 p.m. Jan. 31 at the village hall.
