Redskins win sectional golf title

Minster girls, Schmitmeyer and Stukey also advance to district

Karlee Staugler had a personal best round of 96 to help St. Henry win the Division II girls sectional golf tournament on Tuesday at Celina Lynx.

St. Henry had a dominating day on the links in capturing the Division II girls sectional golf championship held Tuesday at a windy Celina Lynx Golf Course.

The Redskins finished with a 379 to claim the title and advance to next week's district tournament on Monday at Sycamore Springs in Arlington.

"As I like to say, they kept their noses up," St. Henry coach Gary Broering said. "Just kept the ball in front of them and kept playing.

"They've been coming on strong at the end of the season. ... They've been working at it pretty hard and we're happy."

Kaitlyn Clune led St. Henry with a 92. Carina Clune shot a 93. Karlee Staugler shot a personal-best 96, Allyson Hemmelgarn shot a 98 and Jessica Clune rounded out the tournament quintet with a 108.

Lincolnview was runner-up with a 386 and Minster captured the third and final district qualifying spot with a 390. Hannah Koenig led Minster with an 87. Sarah Huwer shot a 98, Taylor Homan a 99, Lisa Borges a 106 and Ali Borgerding a 120.

St. Marys' Jill Schmitmeyer, a state individual qualifier last season, was match medalist with a 75 to qualify again for the district tournament. Wayne Trace's Gracie Gudakunst shot an 88 and Parkway's Haylee Stukey shot a 98 to also punch their tickets to the next round of the postseason.

"Several holes were either severely into the wind or down wind. You had to adjust your shot based on that," Schmitmeyer said. "It made it a little challenging, but it went pretty well."

Parkway finished sixth in the tournament with a round of 447. Following Stukey in the scoring for the Panthers were Mecaylah Hesse (111), Lauren Henderson and Autumn Ellis (119 each) and Maggie Houts (150).

New Bremen was seventh with a 457. Caylie Hall shot a 110 to lead the Cardinals. Marcella Travis (113), Sarah Parker and Amy Balter (117 each) and Katlyn Broerman (124) rounded out the scoring.

Coldwater placed eighth with a 460. Amanda Schmitmeyer led the Cavaliers with a 107. Logan May (109), Payton Kunk (117), Emma Eckstein (127) and Ava Boeckman (161) rounded out the scoresheet.

Marion Local placed ninth with a 477. Marah Moeller shot a 116 for the Flyers' low score of the day. Chloe Nagel shot a 117 followed by Carlee Kremer (121), Maddie Smith (123) and Macy Spieth (150).

Fort Recovery finished 10th with a 509. Competing for the Indians were Kristen Keller (124), Emily Bruns and Eryn Litmer (126 each), Sophie Timmerman (133) and Elli Keller (135).
