Woman in fire dies

By Jared Mauch
MONTEZUMA - A 53-year-old woman died after a house fire early this morning near the intersection of High and Main streets.
Lori Stewart died at Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater, after having been transported from the home, Montezuma Fire Chief Ron Schulze said.
The blaze started about 1:15 a.m. this morning and the woman was the only person in the house at the time of the fire, he said.
Two cats also died during the incident, Schulze said this morning.
The State Fire Marshal's Office is continuing to investigate the cause of the fire, he said.
The home's interior had heavy smoke and heat damage, Schulze said. No cost estimate for damage was known.
The fire department was assisted by crews from Celina, Coldwater and St. Marys Township. Firefighters were on scene until about 7 a.m. today, he said.
