Seibert's season ends with two losses

The wrestling season ended for Coldwater senior Spencer Siebert as he lost two matches of Friday and was eliminated from the Division III state wrestling tournament at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus.

In his first match of the day, Seibert faced off against Oak Harbor's Rhett Petersen. The pair were tied at 4-4 after six minutes of action. In the one-minute "sudden victory" overtime, Petersen was able to score a takedown to win the match 6-4 and send Seibert into a must-win elimination match to keep alive his chances of reaching the podium.

"It was a hard-fought match," Seibert said. "Just couldn't come up with it."

Facing Genoa's Adam Bates in the "go-to" match, a match that ensures a top-eight finish, Bates was able to get the advantage early and hold Seibert to a single point in a 3-1 decision.

"He had a takedown at the very end," Seibert.

Seibert ends the season with a 53-8 record. The 53 wins is tied with Justin Post (2013-14 season) for most in a season.

Seibert was happy to get a win on Thursday, improving on his state trip two years ago when he lost his first two matches and did not advance to Friday's competition.

"It feels really good to get that under my belt," Seibert said. "It's awesome to finish (your season and career) at the last meet (of the season). It's been a really fun career."
