Celestine Hoying
Celestine "Bud" J. Hoying, age 79, Fort Loramie, passed away of natural causes early Wednesday morning, January 20, 2016, at the Versailles Health Care Center in Versailles, Ohio.
He was born March 19, 1936, in Fort Loramie, Ohio, to the late Lawrence and Agnes (Mescher) Hoying. On August 4, 1962, at St. Remy Catholic Church in Russia, Bud married Doris Ann (Monnin) Hoying who preceded him in death on July 7, 2014.
Surviving are four children: Mary & Ken Barhorst of Fort Loramie, Catherine & Jeff Clark of Corning, NY, Melissa McEldowney of Piqua, and Jason & Amy Hoying of Fort Loramie; seven grandchildren: Justin & Hannah, Nathan & Danielle, Derek and Jarid Barhorst, Grace and Olivia Clark, and Stephany McEldowney; Nine siblings: Walter & Sharon Hoying of Sidney, Sr. Carolyn Hoying C.PP.S. of Chicago, Larry & Karen Hoying of Sidney, Nick & Joyce Hoying of Minster, Marge & Mike Kitzmiller of Fort Loramie, Roger & Kay Hoying of Fort Loramie, James & Marty Hoying of Russia, Mary Agnes & Gary Muhlenkamp of Geneva, IN, and Elaine & Jim Staton of Jackson Center; brothers & sisters-in-law: Bob Prenger of Minster, Joyce & Don Lampert of Minster, Floyd & Rosemary Monnin of Versailles, Rosemary Monnin of Cincinnati, Carol and Ben Bell of Foley, AL, Phyllis Eilerman of Sidney, Dan & Sally Monnin of Russia, Mike & Bonnie Monnin of Russia, and Angie & Ron Zimmerman of Fort Loramie.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Doris Prenger, a sister-in-law, Phyllis Hoying and brother-in-law, Patrick Eilerman.
A 1954 graduate of Minster High School, Mr. Hoying then served in the US Army during peacetime following the Korean War. He had been stationed primarily in Europe. Bud was engaged in dairy farming all of his working life.
He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and the St. Michael Knights of St. John. He had been a Maria Stein Faith Rally team leader and also enjoyed attending St. Henry prayer meetings.
Bud belonged to the Shelby County Farm Bureau and years ago served on the Minster Farmers Coop board of directors.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Monday, January 25, 2016, at St. Michael's Church in Fort Loramie with Celebrants, Rev. Ben Muhlenkamp and Rev. Steven Shoup. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday 2:00 to 8:00 PM and Monday 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie.
Memorials may be made to the Maria Stein Shrine of the Holy Relics or charity of donor's choice.
