Eugene Liess
Eugene "Gene" W. Liess, 83, of Anna, passed away at 3:45 AM Saturday, July 11, 2015 at The Pavilion.
He was born on May 30, 1932 in Salem Township, Ohio, the son of the late Melvy and Donna (Knasel) Liess. On March 1, 1968 he married Rosemary (Reeves) Liess who preceded him in death on November 12, 2000.
Eugene is survived by one son, James (Laurie) Liess of Anna, three daughters; Rita Burke of Minster, Kay (Bob) Leighty of South Carolina, Lori (Jeff) Hoelscher of St. Marys, ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mildred Hughes of Sidney.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Rose Spence.
Mr. Liess was a Master Mechanic at Copeland Corporation and retired after 47 years.
Eugene served in the Army 2nd. Division in the Korean Conflict. He was awarded numerous awards; Korean Service Ribbon with 2 Bronze Service Stars, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, United Nations Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, Certificate and Medal of Ambassador for Peace.
He was a member of St. Jacob Lutheran Church, American Legion, VFW, and was a 15 gallon blood donor.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Cromes Funeral Home 302 S Main Ave. Sidney, with Rev. Michael Althauser officiating. Burial will follow at Pearl Cemetery in Swanders.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 from 4-7 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that memorials be made to St. Jacob Lutheran Church 101 W Main St, Anna, OH 45302 and Anna Rescue 203 S Linden Ave, Anna, OH 45302.
