Janice Hegemier
Janice M. Hegemier, 41, Brooklyn, N.Y., and formerly of St. Marys, died at 7:30 a.m. March 2, 2015, at New York Presbyterian Hospital.
Janice was born Feb. 22, 1974, in St. Marys, to Rolland J. and Marie Ohler Hegemier. Her mother is deceased and her father survives in St. Marys. She was married to Marco Diaz, who survives in Brooklyn.
Also surviving are her two sweet sons, August Diaz, age 4, and Alexander Diaz, age 2, both of Brooklyn; her siblings, Steve (Kimberly) Fortney, Yukon, Okla., Ruth (Theodore) Henry, Wapakoneta, Jerry (Danielle) Tangeman, Sidney, Lisa Hegemier, Cleveland, and Lori (Donald) Shellabarger, Mendon; her mother-in-Law, Eileen Diaz; a brother-in-law, Matthew Diaz, Brooklyn; 11 nieces and nephews; and countless friends across the globe.
Also deceased are her father-in-law, Felix H. Diaz, and her beloved basset hound, Gordon.
She was a 1992 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School. She then attended The Ohio State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1998. In 2013, she received a Master of Science in organizational change management from The New School in New York City. After a successful career in corporate America, Janice turned her energy, full-time, to raising her two young boys.
Janice was a devotee of new experiences. She loved travel, food, art, theater and music. But more than obtaining experiences herself, she enjoyed sharing them. She was a careful planner of social events, always ensuring an abundant cheese plate, the right wines and the perfect setting.
Having children was no hindrance to her passions. She took her sons to as varied places as Jazz Fest in New Orleans, Rome, Berlin and the south of France, to name a few. She brought to her fight with cancer the same dignity, strength and resolve that defined her character in all matters of her personal and professional life.
A memorial service is 2 p.m. March 21 at Plymouth Church, 75 Hicks St., Brooklyn Heights, N.Y. Refreshments will follow at the church. All who wish to come and share in tributing and remembering Janice are welcome.
Memorials may be given to Michael's Mission, http://www.michaelsmission.org/donate-today/. To have a donation attributed to Janice, click on "Donate Now" at the top right of the website and indicate in the fields "In memory of" or "in honor of" Janice Hegemier.
