Mary Misplon
Mary K. Misplon, 89, passed on to the next world on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 2014.
She was born Nov. 11, 1925, in Hood River, Ore., to Harry and Gail Hamilton Wollam. On June 30, 1951, in Detroit, she married Gilbert "Gil" Charles Misplon, who survives.
Other survivors are a son, Richard (Kimberly Kradolfer) Misplon and grandsons, Samuel and Benjamin; a son, James (Debbie) Misplon and grandchildren, Angie (Dave) DeGood, Kim (Dave) Graham and John (Lisa) Abbey, and great-grandchildren, Courtney (Dan) Wallace, Taylor, Tiffany, Ella, Emma and Henry, and great-great-grandchildren, Emily, Bailey and Corbin; a daughter, Julia (Anna Durbin) Misplon and grandson, Langston; and a son, Mark (Kristina Runion) Misplon and grandsons, Moses and Josiah.
Deceased is a sister, Ruth.
After her father passed away in 1930, the family returned to the Hamilton family farm in Mercer County near the town of Mendon. She graduated from Mendon-Union High School in 1943 and attended Bowling Green State University. She graduated cum laude with a degree in biology in 1946.
She moved to Detroit, Mich., and went to work as a bacteriologist where she met Gilbert Misplon selling vacuum cleaners door to door. He sold her an Electrolux and apparently swept her off her feet.
She encouraged curiosity, experimentation, love of nature, scholarship, honesty and responsibility.
She worked as a substitute teacher for the Bellefontaine schools and later served as co-director for the Logan County Board of Elections.
She was active in Kings Daughters, bridge club, Logan Piecemakers Quilt Guild, Boys Scouts and Girl Scouts. She was a very active and lifelong birdwatcher. Well-known among the Ohio birding community, she was an expert at identifying birds by both sight and song.
She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
Services are 7 p.m. Sunday at Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, Bellefontaine, Deacon Harold Dipple officiating. Burial is at a later date at Calvary Cemetery Columbarium, Bellefontaine.
Calling is 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
