Arrest made in Celina shooting

CELINA - A Celina man was arrested after allegedly firing at least seven shots into a Brandon Street home early Saturday morning.

No injuries were reported.

Danny L. Williams, 44, 751 Deford St., Lot 20, Celina, remains in the Mercer County Detention Center and is charged with aggravating menacing, a first-degree misdemeanor, and resisting arrest, a second-degree misdemeanor. He is being held on a $75,000 cash bond, jail records show.

Celina Police Chief Tom Wale said his office received a 911 call just before 1:30 a.m. Saturday from a woman at 417 N. Brandon St., who reportedly heard at least four shots fired near her home.

Wale said a police officer on patrol also heard shots fired but couldn't tell exactly from where they had come.

When officers arrived, they found seven spent rounds. One of the shots was fired into a bedroom, landing two feet above the head of a male sleeping there, Wale said.

The chief said fortunately no one was injured during the incident. Along with the adult male and female, two children were in the home, Wale added.

Hours later, Williams was identified as a suspect, Wale said. Two search warrants were obtained - one for forensic evidence to seek gunshot residue on Williams' body and the other to search his home. While officers tried to obtain the residue, Williams became combative and was arrested, Wale said.

Officers retrieved two guns - a 9 mm believed to have been used in the shooting and a .22-caliber handgun, both found in Williams' home, the chief said.

The case will be reviewed by the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office and more charges could be filed, Wale added.

Williams was scheduled to appear in Celina Municipal Court today, according to court officials.
