Corey Shaw, 52, Morris, Ill., passed away Aug. 17, 2014, at the University of Chicago Medical Center from complications of amyloidosis, a rare ailment he fought for nearly two years.
He was born Dec. 13, 1961, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where he was raised and educated. His parents are Priscilla Ball Shaw and Dennis (LeeAnn) Shaw, who survive in Idaho Falls. He was married for 32 years to Donna Mestemaker, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Cari (Rick) Archer, Tampa, Fla., and Tara Shaw, Morris, Ill.; a grandmother, Helen Shaw Arbuckle, Idaho; two sisters, Denise (Shawn) Martin, Boise, Idaho, area, and Diana (Dennis) Tracy, Idaho Falls; one brother, Kelly (Kellie Jo) Shaw, Idaho Falls; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He also will be missed by the Mestemaker family, who thought the world of him and rallied with him through his difficult journey.
Deceased are his paternal grandfather, Gordon J. Shaw, and maternal grandparents, Emer and Ina Ball.
He joined the U.S. Air Force after high school, and while en route to an assignment, he met his future wife, an Ohio native, who was leaving for vacation on the same plane.
He was a self-employed race-car designer and builder. He enjoyed living in several locations in the United States throughout his adult years. He had been a resident of Virginia, Illinois and California, all while serving in the Air Force, and of Michigan and Idaho.
He was a military buff who enjoyed several hobbies, including fishing (for fish and cats), camping, hunting, flying, cooking, sports cars and playing the trumpet. He loved his family immensely and will forever be proud of his daughters.
