Carl Nichols
Carl Fries Nichols, 84, Celina, passed away Aug. 6, 2014, at Mercer Health, Coldwater.
He was born Jan. 26, 1930, in Fairmont, W.Va., to James and Mildred Keating Nichols. He was married to Bonnie Maria Nichols for more than 40 years, and she survives in Celina.
Also surviving are five children, Mark Bartlett, Bay City, Mich., Cindy Gath, Baldwin, Mich., Sheri Singer, Lima, Dianne Schmidt, Celina, and Marcy Moore, Celina; 11 grandchildren; and three sisters, Sarah Renner, Cecilia Slaughter and Margaret Ann Mayhew, all of Fairmont, W.Va.
Deceased is a brother, John Nichols.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy in the 1950s before graduating from Fairmont State University, W.Va., where he was a member of the Tau Beta Iota fraternity.
He was a district sales manager for Allstate Insurance Co., and during his tenure won the prestigious Key Man award. He also worked at Celina Insurance Group for 20 years as division sales manager for training and taught licensing school for the Ohio Professional Insurance Agents Association.
After retirement he served as Jefferson Township clerk. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina, and was active in Celina Combined Charities. He was a life member of the Celina Moose, Eagles, American Legion and VFW.
He enjoyed his years on his 40-acre farm outside Celina. He was a master gardener and avid outdoorsman, loved being a part-time farmer and will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina, the Rev. Charles Obinwa officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 5-7 p.m. Friday at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CALL Food Pantry, Celina.
