Fr. Daniel Raible
Fr. Daniel C. Raible C.PP.S., 96, died at 6:45 p.m. June 12, 2014, in the infirmary at St. Charles Senior Living Center, Carthagena.
He was born Oct. 31, 1917, in McKeesport, Pa., to Daniel P. and Agnes Holtz Raible.
Surviving are a brother, Roy (Grace) Raible; and three sisters, Mary Agnes (Maisy) Welsh, Anna Margaret Busch and Sister Agnes Raible C.D.P., all of the Pittsburgh area; two sisters-in-law, Bea Rable of the Pittsburgh area and Kay Raible, Florida; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Deceased are a sister, Rita (Robert) Harrison; three brothers, Walter (Helen) Raible, Edwin Raible and John Raible; and two brothers-in-law, Bernard Busch and James Welsh.
He entered the Missionaries of the Precious Blood in 1931 and was ordained May 9, 1943. Following ordination, he served as assistant pastor at St. Edward Church in Cleveland, as chaplain at St. Agnes Convent in Fond du Lac, Wis., as assistant pastor at St. John Church in Rib Lake, Wis., and as chaplain at Sacred Heart Hospital in Tomahawk, Wis.
He taught at St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Ind., from 1946-48 and then served in parishes in Kentucky and Indiana before returning to teach at the college. In 1953, he went to Brunnerdale, the society's high school seminary in Canton, where he served as instructor, spiritual director and then magister spiritus of brothers. In 1972, he became chaplain at Timken Mercy Hospital in Canton and later at the Vincentian Home in Pittsburgh. He retired to St. Charles in 1993.
Father Raible was described as a quiet, private person who also was very loving and compassionate to his family and to the people he served through his ministry. Sister Agnes Raible said her brother had a sharp intellect and a love of reading that stayed with him throughout life. Although he left home at an early age, he was able to return to Pittsburgh later in life to minister at the Vincentian Home, where his mother was a resident. They spent time together every day and those were very happy years for him and his family, his sister added.
Funeral Mass is 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Charles, the Rev. Larry Hemmelgarn officiating. Burial will follow at the community cemetery.
Calling is 1-5 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at St. Charles with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
