Rescuing the lake

Celina firefighters Matt Schlater, left, and Dane Dwenger install tubing for linear aeration near Pullman Bay along Lake Shore Drive on Wednesday morning. The $5,000 unit was donated to the city by the Celina Rotary Club. Club member Jim Mustard said $4,300 was for the equipment, and the remaining money will be donated to the city for installation and the base for the air compressor. The city will be responsible for the maintenance and electric costs. Linear aeration disrupts algae formation and adds oxygen to reduce the amount of sediment on the lake's bottom, officials have said.
